A twist I feared would be them just faking their death because that would feel too much like a cop out but the fact that their corpses were found and identified by Klaus himself allayed this fear. I'm not sure why we're supposed to care about Pharm wanting to romance someone from an enemy country for the thrill of it if she's just going to die soon after. I get that the point might be that at first Otori members were rivals to the Lamplight girls but eventually they warmed up to each other so the death of Otori members hits hard but I find it hard to care much for the Otori members if they're just going to get killed off immediately except Lan. It's so bad that you get shit like flashback within a flashback. I find this to be incredibly pace breaking when there's something interesting coming up then whoops let's go back to Days With Otori. The past being the time when Otori is invited into Heat Haze Palace to spend time training with Klaus for a month, a training that is nothing more than Lamplight trying to get Klaus to surrender.

It keeps jumping back and forth between the past and present. Now here's my massive gripe with this volume. As collateral, Thea swaps with Sybilla and becomes the prisoner instead. Klaus eventually comes to the rescue, frees Sybilla, and tells Amelie that Klaus and co will cooperate with the investigation.

They are trying to question Sybilla about whereabouts of Lan because it turns out that Otori is accused of attempted assassination of the Fen Prince and with Otori being also from Din Republic, it goes without saying that Lamplight might be in cahoots with them. The volume starts with Sybilla in Fen Federation getting captured by their counterintelligence team called Belianz and it's leaded by a goth girl named Amelie who goes by Code Name Manipulator. It also has a cliffhanger of a Serpent member named Green Butterfly who talks about how a traitor is the most effective way of taking down an organization and how she found somebody in Lamplight to target. Volume 5 ends in a massive bombshell of everybody in Otori getting annihilated except for Lan who is missing. I'm reading it raw and there's a number of new characters introduced in Volume 6 so the names I will use in this review aren't necessarily going to match the localized version coming this August. As of writing, only up to Volume 5 has been released in English.
